(The shine on some of the pictures is Neosporin.) The chickens are americaunas and are about 3 years old. We just noticed the problem yesterday when the first chicken was shaking her head. Otherwise they seem healthy and are eating and drinking normally. We have quarantined these 2 and are watching the rest of the flock carefully. There are about 25 chickens in this coop. We have 2 other coops that have no symptoms. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

Welcome o BYC. It kind of looks like an ear infection or an abscess, which could be bacterial, fungal, or from mites, fowl pox, or pecking that has become infected. Go to the top of this page and enter "ear infection help" in the search box. Look for posts by Dawg53. Gather some QTips, hydrogen peroxide, and some plain neosporin ointment, and try to clean the gunk out.

You know, it's hard to focus on the chicken. I must say, the fellow holding the hen just strikes me as a fantastic sort of person. Those hands! The watch! Just an all-around stone cold fox.
