HELP!! What Breed of Duck Should I Get? PLEASE POST PICS!!!

What duck breed should I get??? Magpies, Saxonies, Swedish, Silver Appleyard, Welsh Harlequin, Buff, Cayuga. Pics are very much appreciated! there is also another thread that I started that you should check out!

It would depend on what you want them for. Are they for eggs, meat, dual purpose, or just pets? Does size and noise level matter? It will also depend on your personal preference. You could always get a mixed flock and get one of each (assuming you have the room/resources).

By the way, 2 drakes to 3 females can be a rather high ratio. You'd be safer with only one drake.

If you're looking for eggs, you might not want to choose Rouens, Muscovies, or Alyesburies. They only lay 35-125 eggs a year. Campbells will lay up to 320 eggs a year. Runners, Appleyards, and Harlequins are also excellent layers.

The reason I would want to get 2 drakes is so I can breed without having interbreeding problems.

That's a good idea, and that's why I have two drakes, but you might still want to separate the males in case they fight. I have two drakes and 18 females, and I still separate them for the night.

Ok I will do that with my call drake and my other ? breed. BTW I have looked at a BILLION duck comparison charts and I just can't decide on a breed!

Haven't looked at your other one, and I just have a drake flock, so not much good at suggesting for meat/eggs/etc. Mine are strictly pets, and I only have 4. I have a Cayuga, a crested white Pekin, a mallard and a ..well, I can't figure out if it's a Silver Apple-Yard or Saxony.

Out of personal favorites of my 4, I would have to say my crested white Pekin, and I don't even know why. He's just so... idk. There's something about him. He seems a bit more clutsy, and cute in his personality? Haha. Probably my more average/med build one, slower then the rest of them.

But the Cayuga is absolutely gorgeous. Not overly heavy or huge, but not small either. Has an easier time moving quickly and quite smart.

I've had my Apple-Yard/Saxony the longest, and he's been a great duck as well. Huge, heavy, and pretty in his own way, though the gray head is definitely different. Despite being heavy and big he is still fast and probably the most elusive of all 4.

The mallard is probably my least appreciated one, he's so small compared to my others and more flighty, though they're all scaredy-pants. Here's some photos.

Do they ever fight mymontsters?

Drakes usually only fight if there are females to fight over.
