Looking for some opinions and guidance. I was looking at my chickens legs today and noticed a few things.
1) The first was that some of my rescued birds have lifted scales in their legs? In all the ready it says that it could be scale mites?
Rescued bird (all of my birds free range so please mind the dirty feet) [IMGALT=""]http://www.backyardchickens.com/content/type/61/id/7144901/width/200/height/400[/IMG]
Here is a picture of my rooster. To me his feet look normal?
Another one of the girls I hatched in February 2015
2) I then came across another rescue and my heart just sunk. Is this Bumblefoot???
And if it is, is there anything I can do to avoid surgery? I am absolutely beside myself. My husband said he would do the surgery for me as there are not any avian vets in our area but I don't want to cause her more stress.
3) finally, the four birds that I rescued fit in perfectly with my flock. There is no signs of abnormal aggression towards one another or from my roo. I got the girls in early spring and they had lost a lot of their feathers. I was told they were molting. But now almost six months later they still look the same if not worse. The feather stems are there but the actual feather won't grow. I have tried to spectate them but they hate it and it seems to cause them more stress to be away. I have given them high protein snacks (egg shells, cottage cheese, spinach) but on 3/4 birds they aren't growing in. With a Canadian winter coming I need some answers and advice!
