Wow! This really shocked and surprised me!

 I was watching you tube videos on sexing new chicks and ran across this link from the Discovery channel,   (below)  It actually made me very sad the way the chicks are handled. Throwing them around, dropping in holes, rolling down belts falling into holes and the rough handling they receive. :hu    

They really are tough little things. 

 

I realize that meat birds, and layers need to be produced in high volume, but just never envisioned how it was done!   Definitely enlightening....and not in a good way.  I was better off in the dark. Looking at my 6 lovely little peepers that I hatched this week (my first time)...I feel happy that they will be loved....and I guess I won't be quite so afraid of their "frailness"  

 

And what about that hole they puncture in it at day 18!  Then they still hatch!! Whoa!  Quite the operation this business is on a commercial basis.

I've never seen this before.  The magnitude of the process is amazing to me.  Chicks are a lot tougher than many give them credit for.
