Hi everyone! I've been lurking around here for the last couple weeks, but have found so much good information on this site that I figured I should probably join in on the fun. I live on 7 acres in the Miami/Johnson county area in Kansas, and am planning on getting some peas and guineas in the spring. Currently, I'm still doing my research and drawing up plans for the brooder and the big coop/pen (it's looking like a quarter acre right now).

I am new to birds, but love all animals and have some experience with parrots. Other than that, all my knowledge is straight from here. I've got 4 inside cats, 3 ferals, 1 dog, and 3 fish tanks, and am itching to raise these chicks!

If anyone has advice for raising a mixed flock, all wisdom is welcomed!!

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! How exciting for you to be planning your new chicken adventures!! Raising chickens really is a fantastic hobby that is lots of fun and very rewarding too. I'm sure you will enjoy the experience very much. Have you checked out the learning centre? Lots of super articles there on all aspects of keeping your flock happy, safe and healthy. Here is the link ~https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Good luck getting started and enjoy BYC :frow

Welcome to BYC! I wish I could help you directly but I don't ship my peachicks and I'm in Idaho. There are some peafowl people in the Kansas area that are here on BYC. Go to the peafowl forum area and start a thread looking for peafowl in Kansas. I just got done building a new pen and will take some pictures and share the pen design ideas with you. I have a pair of Indian Blues, Indian Blue Black Shoulder hen, Spalding split to White hen, and a pair of Whites.

Thanks everyone for the kind words!

@Birdrain92 -- I love your videos on taming peacocks! I would love any and all advice you have on the peafowl. I have so many questions. I am looking into Leggs Peafowl since they're local! I'm really hoping for a pied one.

Thank you! Ask any question you have. On here or you can PM me. Leggs Peafowl farm is an excellent choice. I would like to get more peas soon and I might get one from them. That way I also learn how shipping peafowl works. I've seen their website and got an interview with them and it looks and sounds amazing. Words just can't describe it. I'm hoping when I get my own property I can have more peafowl and I would like to get most of them from Leggs Peafowl farm. It seems more and more people have been hearing or finding my videos on getting them tame. How are you guys finding them just searching the web and it comes up or what? I'm glad more and more people are finding them.
