Creative coyote deterrents?

Please remember, coyotes didn't ask to be born coyotes. They are just trying to survive. They love chickens, cats, little dogs but not children. We hate it when they feed on our pets, I lost 3 last year in one day and was heart broken. I put hours into research, spent $$ on a nice large fenced pen, built a new coop that I close up at night. The only good safe solution is hot wire, i purchased a strong pulsating Gallagher fence (dont get continuous current). I ran 2 wires around, its working fine. It would seem with that amount of stress it would affect their laying ? I try to keep the hens very happy and allow enough room to roam.

Sorry @Robynhar but you are dangerously mistaken. Coyotes are opportunists, and to them, meat is meat, be it a 2-3 year old in a back yard or somebody's free ranging pet. If they think they can get it, they will. The danger of and even possibility of an attack against a child is much, much greater in a suburban setting where the coyotes live in close proximity to humans and so are less afraid of them. After all, in suburbia, they don't have humans shooting at them. They are pretty much stared at and left alone to their own devices. I love all animals too, but I'm not gonna cuddle with a mountain lion, a bear, or a coyote.
