2 bare butt chickens

I have been switching mine to the pellet, I offer a dish of each, and am slowly feeding more pellet and less crumble, since switching to a pelleted all flock my feed consumption has dropped drastically, I think because they are not wasting the pellet like the could with the crumble, no spooning out, and I think they are consuming less and the sparrows can't eat the pellet like they could the crumble. Chickens don't like change, anything should be slowly.

Can it hurt going with a higher protein? If I change to a different feed that is still a crumble, do I have to change it over real slow or just mix it half and half for a bag?

I started mixing my feed with flock raiser to see if they will like it better since they are scooping all their feed onto the floor. Also I finally got to pick up one of the girls with the bare butt and see she has what looks like pins sticking out of the skin. Guessing it's her feathers coming back in. Since this all happened I have only been getting 11 eggs instead of 12. Guessing it's a molt. And in one of the nest boxes this morning I found 6 fluffy feathers. Guess I didn't realize they would molt at 6 months old...

I think it's the final chick molt, it usually happens around 6 months, but it wouldn't be an adult molt which halts laying.

Ya 3 of them have bare butts but can see the little feathers coming in. The 12th one decided to lay yesterday. So got a full dozen again then the later that day a weasel a little before noon got one of my girls in their run. Even more secure now and I shot the weasel.

Good to hear you got the weasel, you were lucky to see it. Now some of your hens may halt laying because of the stress of all that, sorry.

Yesterday they all laid. I was surprised. Today only got 10 but there was a wet spot in one nest box. I'm guessing someone laid a soft shell this morning.
