HELP - new chick with broken foot

Thread Starter

My hen hatched 3 eggs a few days ago and another hen killed one chick and was after another. The chick is ok, except her foot looks to be almost amputated. I tried to splint it but when I put the chick back it with its mother, the mother pulled off the splint.

What should I do? Remove the foot or splint it and care for it on my own?

I know this is now a week old, but I'm curious about what your point of action was. In that situation if the bones were not actually broken in 2 and it was just severely cut wrapping and separating it would have been the better, if the bones were indeed actually broken in 2 and the foot just hanging by flesh then sadly culling would have been a better option.

I have 1 fat cat, and raise true black/blue, silver, white and wheaten Ameraucanas, runmpless araucana, Olive eggers, speckled sussex, wheaten and copper marans, lavender orpingtons, 1 pet delaware hen, white crested and buff laced polish, 1 pet barred rock hen,1 ring neck cock pheasant, 6 ring neck hens, 4 guinea fowl, a smorgasbord of turkeys, 2 kids, and 1 husband.
