When I was a child my dad raised chickens, ducks and guineas. I have since moved back to live on my dad's property (he's 87). I thought I'd get some chickens to start but they didn't work out. I love guineas, love their noise, love how wild they are and absolutely love they eat ticks!

If guineas don't count as backyard chickens and I'm in the wrong forum then please let me know.

I don't really remember much about taking care of them except you feed and water them daily. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have 2 hens and 1 rooster. I just got them today and have them penned up until they acclimate to their new environment. I'm hoping to have them penned up for the winter and let them out in the spring. If that's not a good idea please let me know.

Guinea owners are absolutely welcome here, you'll find them over on the guinea forum:

There are also articles about guineas in the Learning Center:

I hope you enjoy your birds, it's nice to have you here!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. NorthFlChick has given your some great links so I'll just say, please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your Guineas.

Of course you are Welcome at Backyard chickens. NFChick has given you excellent links. Many folks have guineas - though I do not know much about them.

Just here to say welcome. My grandmother had neighbors, who had guineas. They were noisy. She had a lot of land, didn't mind that they came to visit her geese and ducks.

Oh, you've come to the right place. Anything that has wings is talked about in this forum. And, there are a lot more threads too. Go to your state thread. Maybe there are folks there that love and have guineas too!
