The first photo of rooster #1 is an excellent photo, and makes him look fabulous. However, the second photo of rooster #1 is less complimentary. Both photos of rooster #2 make him look nice. The lighting doesn't provide the same contrast and photographic quality as the first picture of rooster #1, but overall he looks to have better conformation. Plus, he has an exceptional temperament, which for me goes a long way. I've stopped keeping cockerels that don't have good behavior towards me or their hens. Peaceful behavior towards the other males is also a huge plus, but not an absolute requirement. I'd use rooster #2 as the primary, but like the idea of keeping rooster #1 as a backup. He's a nice rooster, and he may be needed if the white earlobe from rooster #2 can't be bred out.

From the photos, I like rooster 1 best. The mishapen comb point is nothing to worry about. It looks like it could even have been caused by a pecking injury earlier in his life (sometimes as chicks my birds get their comb pecked, which can shorten or damage points).

Could be just camera angle but the 2nd pic of the first bird, he looks to have a slight hump in his back. If he indeed does I would not breed from that bird

I am investigating bird one. Abundant gratitude to all of you taking the time to look and share the expertise of your trained eyes. It is helping me greatly to refine my search and my eye in these matters.

Keep it coming...

I agree, he does look a little roach-backed in that photo. He looked so good in the first photo that I assumed that it was just the way he was standing at the moment, but definitely something to determine before using him at stud.

Well, I am sending #3 to freezer camp.

Number 1 does not have a hump...whew. Keeping him as back up.

I'm going to hatch out a bunch this month as my girls are still not molting. My black orps are huge and my blues are looking great.

Can't wait to hatch these out and see what everyone looks like in spring!

Thanks again to everyone who took the time to help me out!
