Before I give him away or possibly eat him, are we sure this is a Rooster? I swore he clucked the other day. He is now 7 months old and has neither crowed or produced an egg.

He's a cockerel for sure. Most cockerels will start crowing from 4-5 months, but sometimes it's much later, particularly if they are the only cockerel around.

I am fairly new also but read a lot about chickens on this website. So take my opinion in stride but the hackle feathers appear to be pointed which should mean Cockerel. The saddle feathers are not as consistent as a hen but appear to be shaped like a cockerel. FYI my rooster started crowing (poorly) just before 4 months.

At 7 months, he's definitely a slow starter, but he's all boy. Come spring I'll bet he'll be singing every morning
