We had talked about starting to raise chickens for a few years now and kept putting it off for one reason or another. I lost my Mom on April 1, 2015, somewhat unexpected, and by April 27th we attended our first poultry auction where we came home with 100 chicks. Boy what a way to start our family. Over the last few months we have bought, sold and traded our birds we now have now to Thirty four between ages of 3 to 6 months old, a little over half, yes most roos, will go to auction next week. We just got our first egg this past Tuesday, WooHoo, I will be working this weekend to identify my layer, thinking one of the RIRs. As far as breeds, we have a pair of Black Laced Red Wyandottes, a pair of Barred rocks, two FBCM hens, 5 RIR hens, 3 RIR Roos, Five Buff Orps, 4 Black Orps, 7 new Hampshire Roos; the next four are questionable in breed, one Rooster, one roadside found hen and two from my first attempt at incubation. Which brings me to the meat, feather and eggs to my decision to post on this forum. I will be looking for some input/ideas on what our unknown chickens may be.

I came across BYC over the last 5 - 6 months while researching everything chickie. I have found most of my information from coops, breed types, best breeds for eggs/meat production, feeds, medications, diseases and everything in between via the internet search engines and most every idea or suggestion either resulted in starting with or ending with BYC Site and its family.

Any thoughts on what they may be?

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Wow that is a lot of chicks to start with!! You have some beautiful birds there, have loved looking at your pics. The what breed gender section is great place to post pics of your birds that you are unsure of. Here is the link ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this
Lots of members there who will be able to help you.

Good luck and enjoy BYC :frow

You sure jumped in with both feet starting with 100 birds! Congrats on getting that first egg. I'm glad BYC has been such help to you getting things up and running.

I'm not sure what breeds are that you have pictured, someone over on the breed id forum will probably know.

Thank you for joining us and condolences on your mother.

Thanks all, Glad to be part of such a great family. I will post these on the thread that you all suggested and hopefully the rain will let up so I can get a pic of my Lucy.
