Hi!
I have bought a new chicken, he is a Serama, and I want to introduce him to my Silver Laced Wyandottes. He is a lot smaller then them so I'm nervous to try to introduce them. I have been keeping him in a cage for the "Look but no touch" thing. He is a bit intimidated be my Silver laced Wyandottes. Has anyone had experience with introducing Seramas to regular sized birds? Thanks!

Be very careful. He is at a serious disadvantage because of his size, and big birds pick on smaller birds. Chicken society is frequently unkind.

Personally, I would never try to add such a small bird to an established large fowl flock. If you do try, be there and monitor the flock interaction. Do not leave him with the flock unattended until you have viewed their interactions on MANY occasions.

I'm not at all confident this will work.

How old are the birds involved? How much space do you have?

If the hens are mature and the Serama is still young, I wouldn't risk it. I'd only try it if I had a mature, confident male and lots of space.

Thank you everyone! My birds are about the same age, the rooster may be 2-3 weeks younger. I don't know about introducing. I will work it out one way or another.

I've introduced smaller birds in my flock and never had a problem. Worst case for me is that they get pecked once in a while but that happens with all chickens. Like they saI'd just monitor them for a while when they're together and you should be fine

Thanks! How did you introduce yours?

Okay, I tried intruding him and it went great! He was let out and the hens came over and treated him very well! He got pecked a few times and every time he backed the girl that did it down till she submitted. Then he called them all over to him and they where like old friends! I'm still going to only have him out while I watch them for a while yet, but I think its going to work out fine! :)
