Hi this is a thread for all you sheep lovers.
Post pics what you have what you want and what you think of the breed you have.

To start this is what I have, a small flock of pedigree Kerry hills (2 tups and 8 ewes), a small flock of pedigree rousins 4 tups and 25 ewes and 8 Kerry hill cross ewes.
Now let's here what you have all got.

Hi there! I don't have sheep myself, but we've been learning a lot about them in my classes at school. What is a tup? Is that another word for a ram?

I'd love to see pictures of your sheep! What do you use them for?

hi, yes a tup is another word for a ram. I keep them for meet, to sell lambs at market to earn money and for enjoyment. Pics coming soon.

I don't have sheep but think I might like them one day as well as goats. I have heard some people say that they are stupid though? I am not saying this to start anything, it is a genuine question since I've heard people, even people with sheep, say that they are not the brightest and was curious what your thoughts were. Also I have seen several ads on Craigslist for both painted sheep as well as self shedding sheep. Has anybody heard of either of these?

I have heard they are stupid, but I don't completely believe that. They simple run together as a herd. That is their only way to protect them self's from danger. They do run into fences and aggressive rams run into people, occasionally. But not enough to call them dumb. They are smart enough to get your best fence a run for it's money. I had a problem were they pulled the latch off of the a gate but I have an enclosed yard so it wasn't a huge deal. I was doing a presentation to some kids, when a lamb ran away. After 2 hours of chasing the lamb in a hot, open area, I trapped it into a pile of logs. I've never heard of the painted sheep or self shedding sheep. I'll look into it, sounds interesting.

Hmm, wow that's interesting. So maybe they're somewhat simple then? Or just herd like you said.

But oh wow, yours sound smart! Lol

But you should definitely look them up! I'll try to find the links on CL though! Paints are just like they sound, paint colors. Self shedding supposedly shed the wool themselves so no shearing necessary.

I looked at the self shearing sheep. Sounds like it will be a real help to farmers. Right now the price is a little steep, tough. I will wait for the price to go down and maybe get one. It's a very interesting sheep.

Yeah, I thought it was interesting too. Although I didn't understand where the wool went. Like it seems it would be like a dog, spread all over the place, not as easy to collect. But better than shearing. But yeah, the price on them and the paint sheep is kind of ridiculous. :( but i guess they're still a new concept. I'm sure they'll be more widespread and/or be mixed with some of the more "classic" breeds to create self sheding.in lots of breeds eventually maybe
