Hey everyone! I'm looking for an affordable milk goat but I'm having trouble locating any with the exception of going to an auction to buy one. The auction is an option, however I would just feel better buying one directly from the owner. I'm pretty terrible at trying to interpret what the auctioneer is saying, and I really don't have a clue what I"m looking for in a goat other than I'd like a nubian...preferably ready to kid in the spring.

Just curious if anyone out there in BYC-land knew of any for sale or breeders in Ohio. I'm in NE ohio, so that area would be ideal. I've tried the Best Farm Buys and Craigslist websites and haven't come up with anything.

Thanks!

Do you milk your pygmys? I have a pygmy doe that has never kidded, but she's the type that I don't think would cooperate with being milked. I'd like to just have enough milk to cook with and to make soaps, cheese, and yogurt with. Not sure how much pygmys milk each day.....

Well no I have never tried to milk them, but when they kid thier milk bags are huge!! Pygmys are alot smaller than nubian but maybe 2 could do the trick lol.

Join a few goat sites and look at the for sale pages. You would be surprised how many oare listed in your area...there are a few I like to go to..

there are for sale pages and lots of goats also, and lots of goat people to help...
alot of times the goats you see at sale barns are culls and there is eather a problems medically or physically. also it can bring diseases into your herd. Sometimes you get lucky but dont want to buy a goat with mastitis...
Good luck and Nigerians are a good small milking goat and produce lots of milk also. I have Nigis, nubians, alpines and mini alpines. So got my hands full... I love them all
