Make sure you have a trashcan big enough to completely submerge the trap into. I made that mistake once.
Also, understand the havahart only works when horizontal. When dropping into a trashcan of water you have to insert rods so the doors don't open. I made that mistake once too. Enter trap trained raccoons.
Eventually, you'll have to go to leg traps as they become trained not to enter the havahart.

How about a metal roof. Galvanized roofing panels you can bolt or wire together. They can't chew through that. I bought mine used on craigslist for a song. And I don't sing that well.

Tyvm! I will look into metal roofing.

Knowing that movie as well as I do, I bust out laughing at this post.

Amazing how much work you can get done in 2 hours with a nail
gun and a career carpenter, rather than a wannabe with a hammer.

Hello peeps, I'm in the market for my 1st incubator primarily for Coturnix quail though chickens may come later.

I am on the fence between the hovabator genesis 1588 and the incuview incubator. They are both relatively the same price at incubator warehouse and i was set on the genesis until I recently came across the incuview.

Ive read as much as I can stomach in the incuview thread but by many pages in on both ends of the thread it just seemed to be enthusiastic owners talking about their hatches.

Does anyone have both who can tell me what they like and dislike about them? I like the plastic shell on the view but am concerned about the number of eggs that can be set at one time.
Are the thermometer and humidity gauges accurate and if not where's a good source for backups?
What is your consensus on reliability?

Thanks for your perspectives and opinions.
Welcome to the thread! @eHuman

Incubating W/ Friends Hatcher list

Birthdays: Sally Sunshine 8/5!! HAPPY BDAY!!

Sally Sunshine
My fan took a crap in the blue bator, lost half the eggs, so down to about 15 or so eggs of all my breeds

BantyChooks AKA Banti or Bubbles
22 eggs, EE and sultan mixes..... Oops.

Chaos18 AKA Trouble or Chaos
Bators are off for the time being, and my broodies are sitting on two golf balls.

MotorcycleChick AKA MC or Abi
22 total Silver Pencil Rock eggs set 7/8
Nine SPR running around with the moms since Sunday.
One was trampled (I ticked off the moms) and one was crushed by the moms in the box. Three just didn't have the strength to live. The rest were quitters.

kwhites634 AKA Whites, Whitey, Ken, Red Dog..... Just not late for supper
Not much to update since the 5 7/2 chicks hatched. Put them outside a couple days ago & they're loving life. No further incubation planned for a while; 17 birds is plenty.

daxigait AKA Dax or Daxi
Broody has eight eggs 6/24, but I don't know how many are fertile since my cockerels are young and only with the hens on the odd evening. Green egg layers CL over OE/BSL/BR/RIR.
*Update*
One more week for my broody, but it is supposed to be really hot (heat index today 107 for example). hatch 14/15

Jessimom AKA Kathy
I have 14 BCM that gotro17 had shipped, 4 legbars (I think were also shipped), along with I think 12 of my backyard chicken eggs - these are on day 10. And I set 28???? eggs 2 days ago. It's a mix of gotro17's backyard mix eggs, and mine. I'll do an accurate count if I ever candle them.

Mine are probably not all fertile, Since we pulled the roosters several weeks ago, and the baby roos were just starting to figure out how to play with the girls when they started to crow and got pulled.. I currently have a BEAUTIFUL Salmon Favorelle and 2 black silkie roos in my basement. Waiting until I figure out what we are going to do with them.

I also have 2 broodies sitting on eggs. Not sure how far along, or how many eggs. They both should be getting close though.

mlm Mike AKA Mike or Mikemikemikemikemike

Broody hen w/ icelandics.
I have another broody, Icelandic, have no idea how many eggs at this time. Discovered her last evening so she started Sat. or Sun. Problem is she is on hay that I need so I will have to try to move her soon.

Hatch update, I'm not at the house, but have been told broody number one hatched at least one chick! Broody number two is still going. I never had to move her off the hay as I had more hay delivered yesterday.

casportpony AKA Kathy or Kat
Set a gazzilion pea eggs last night, so should see some chicks in 26-29 days from now. Also have another 12 or so due this month, I think, but I don't remember when I set them.

LittleLakePhil AKA Phil
I just set 12 Khaki Campbell duck eggs in my Brinsea.....hopefully they will hatch while my grand daughter is here visiting.....

sasafras4u2
When I got home early am I had one lavender orpington hatched this morning when I got up at 730 there is another lavender and a chocolate cookcoo cross. Still waiting on the other few 4 of them are 3 days behind so I should be hatching all weekend. Lol. There was only 10 surviving eggs to start with.

attimus AKA Zach
8 hona
5 Hmong
6 cemani(possible Hmong crosses)
All on day 7, checked one egg last night, veining. Candling the rest tonight.

Egg update.
Incubator was unplugged for my entire shift at work last night. Returned to normal working conditions upon realization. Am not optimistic at this point but stranger things have happened.

megan805
Hi everyone have 16 eggs in bator, Olive egger and blue birchan maran should be fun due the 26th.

Leave a LightOn
Six LF Wheaten Ameraucana under bantam D'uccle since 6/27. Broody holding tight day 11. No leakers or stinkers. One poopy and cleaned today.
Update: One of six hatched yesterday, Day 20. Other five eggs rotten!

I will let the broody raise her so she won't be lonely. Mama raised a pair last year for 8 weeks. They were bigger than her!

danielkbrantley

got a dozen mutt eggs and 11 of 12 hatched out. The first hatched Thursday evening around 11:30 p.m. Three more hatched overnight. Another hatched in the morning while I let the big girls outta the coop, and the other six hatched throughout the day. They're now in the brooder and are painfully cute. My girls (human daughters) have been oohing and aahhhing all day.

I used a borrowed LG still air and bought an egg turner to make life easier. Kept it at 99-100 on my digital thermo and 101-102 on the (non-digital). Humidity first couple weeks was 45 or so, then let it drift down to 35 until late on day 18, when I amped up the humidity to 63-65%.

And I am still in shock that it worked so well and so...easily...

Thanks all for your help! If you scan through this thread long enough, you'll see how uninformed I was prior to this. Your help has been irreplaceable!

Thanks a million,

Daniel
