I'm not Benny but barley sprouts the best. Wheat works too. Sunflower seed sprouts the easiest. I've also sprouted buckwheat and millet.

The CL are two and a half months older so right now is not a good time to compare them.
They are true BBS Ameraucana from blue eggs. They came from a breeder in OK. I have two blue and one black cockerel, and a blue hen.

I'll look for it. I noticed he got off to a terrible start but turned on the afterburners halfway through.
For your project, crossing with Leghorns, I would breed the birds from the bluest eggs - regardless of breed.

GF? Gluten free?
You could try almond butter, almond powder or cashew butter to make the crust with.

Barley aren't so recommend for chickens it contains beta Glucans that make some problems in the digestion process.

So I don't recommend it.
Spelled , millet , sorghum , maize , are good options .
