Sally, couldn't get the spoiler to work properly so I removed the pic before anyone got grossed out.
Or so I thought! Whites was on a hair trigger to reply, his post has the Dis.
They all seemed well positioned, except the assist. That one was tangled up a bit, never would have pipped with out the assist.

You can keep the pic up, incubating comes first here and stuff like that just happens. Chickenkeeping sure aint something for the weak hearted!

well not only where the eggs in the incubator dead... the two chicks died

Good evening everyone!
Yes Sally, there were lots of very good hatches, even if you disregard Ur's lucky hatch!
My first Hal experience on the other hand was brutal.
33 set, 25 clears, I blood ring, 2 late quitters, 3 DIS, one on time hatch, and one assisted hatch this afternoon.
I had 7 make it to lockdown, and then experience temp spikes over the next two days.
I consider it lucky I got any at all out safely.
Looking for another silkie Roo as we chat, I set another 20 silkie eggs on the 26th, candled this evening and the majority do not look good. Only found about six that show good veining so far. I will wait til day 14 to pull the plug on the questionable ones.

those are not very good numbers . bunch of clears . I think the cold is the culprit in this case as well as mine while not quite 50% mine was close 12 out of 30 set . is bad no matter how you look at it . would have hatched ten one of my Marans turned in the shell but did not zip and suffocated at the bottom before I knew it had done it . big chick too . this is not the first time this has happened with my BCMs.

Gotta be quick when you're up against one of the best in the business!

Took me a 2nd look (after I busted your chops, naturally), but I eventually realized what it was...neat idea :thumbsup

Not a problem, Whites! I had to go back and look to see what you meant, and it does look a bit like the last fish and chips I ordered! :lau

I have used the paper towel trick before when I have had humidity or sticky issues, soak it under hot water, let it drip off then wrap gently around the egg leaving any pips exposed. Works every time for me.

As for the fishbowl, I keep a few of those handy for the bator and the brooder to give late arrivals a chance to figure out their footing. I just put some shelf liner or rags in the bottom of the cup for traction. :frow

ehhh dont matter, its an incubation thread, post them away. if they are on here and cant take seeing that they shouldnt be incubating. its part of the process and happens often

Aren't you the encouraging one! I've got an ad on CL looking for BCM eggs

Yes, the numbers are brutal.
I am wondering about the cold, but this is not the first rodeo that my Roo has let me down on.
We did have temps in the -5 f range overnight when I was collecting these, and single digit highs, but my silkies are pretty good about sitting tight on the nest until I collect their eggs. They are usually quite warm when I get to them.
