Speaking of 1 day chicks, should i nit wait untill chicks are 1 month before selling them? I was think of getting colored zip ties and marking the sold ones to their correct owners then giving them the chicks at 1 month so i know they are more safe when i give them to someone. Also it gives the person time to build the coop. What do you think?
I sell them at 3 days. If a chick (a very rare occasion) dies it will be within the first 3 days. I have sold 1000's and never once had anybody tell me there chicks or even a chick died. Thats why i have soooo much repeat business. Hatcheries send them to you on day one. So!!

I will explain it like this. My mother's family farmed and had hogs. They went to confinement in the 60's. Well mom married a farmer that milked and that's how I came about. Although we have beef cattle and farm now, no dairy herd. Thank God. Anyway, PRRS and other illnesses would decimate a pig farm. My grandpas employees were not allowed to be at any place there was swine nor could they have them. It was sanitize into the buildings. Every other week a semi came in for a load of butcher pigs. Truck and trailer had to be sanitized and washed prior to entering the farm. Pigs were loaded from an outside pin and not from the finishing house. Once a pig went on the trailer, it could not come off. If at any time a pig got off the trailer, it was shot where it stood. Period not up for discussion. Sale barns were off limits. Etc. you get the drift I'm sure.
My ex still lives on the dairy farm he grew up on, his mom had a few chickens for eggs, eventually they came in and said NO chickens with dairy cows...she had to get rid of all.

So hi everyone

Yeah but you dont know what people are like around here.

No they are not. These are the only breed I have that are not from a breeder. Got them from TSC last year.I wish I could find some. If I ever do I will sell all these.
Yeah... they're pretty hard to come by. I contacted Good Shepard and asked about buying some of their heritage BR chicks, but not surprisingly, I never got a response. I got my eggs from Cackle Hatchery stock.

No. But really you are. Your not putting 1 day old chicks with your grown ones correct. So you are but aren't.
Correct, I have feed store purchased babies that I raised to adults. I added a barnyard mix chick after I had it for 6 months. She came with 5 others that turned out to be roosters - got rid of those before introducing her to the rest of the flock. I now have more store bought chicks that will be at least 6 months old before I introduce them to my flock. I would hope that any diseases would show themselves prior to then. My babies I've hatched have been kept separate from all others. If I keep any of those, I'd follow the same time frames.

I've been selling my baby silkie chicks starting at a week old. I've sold them to people that ALREADY raised chickens and know how to care for baby chicks. First time I bought baby chicks, I bought day old chicks. I bought them knowing how to care for babies. So, no, you don't have to wait for a month.

Yeah my brahma doesnt like being picked up and is scared of me to death when i am standing up. But when i sit down in the coop i an her new nesting box
Thats all mine. I try not to treat them like a dog or cat. I try to raise them as chickens. Seen so many people have so many problems and when you really look into there problems there not treating them as such. People hate me when i say it but there chickens!! Stop treating them like a house animal. They are not. And when you do and do the correct maintenance on them you will have healthy and happy chickens. Just the fact of it all.
