We have a meetup, usually coffee, tea, lunch once or twice a month with our local chicken meetup. We have almost 800 members.
The last one was crazy. It was a chicken book sharing event at a coffee shop. We filled the place.
That's awesome. There aren't many members that are super local here. There are more enthusiasts but they aren't on BYC. There were only 7 of us this time, but hopefully next time there will be more. ^_^

That's usually about the size of our normal get-togethers I was shocked to see so many people this time when I walked in. Our coop tours and education events are bigger.
I think only a handful of them are on BYC.
This is our group. I'm one of the organizers.

I'm also in the The Saint Louis Urban Farm & Sustainable Development Group, Saint Louis Permaculture Guild, Slow Food and a few others - primal living, animal trainers, etc..
I'm teaching a chicken class for our Gateway Greening center. Similar but shorter than the ones I do at community colleges.

Question about stored egg temps. I had read on here to store the eggs between 40-50F. I'm ready to fire up the Bator again (only got 1 chick out of the last batch but have purchased a fan kit now. Maybe that'll help).
The eggs are obviously cold, but I am wondering how long I should wait, or if it's nessisary, before putting them in the incubator once I get the Bator temp stablized.

I made a bunch, then poured the rest of the batter in the pan. I used to buy Bisquuck for easy pancakes, but now I love my sourdough recipe.
I'm afraid to even go look at my ducks....I'll finish this cup of coffee and go out and feed and water them....I have no idea how cold it actually got if it was still negative 22 at 10am.....but last night was the test for them....I have igloos made of straw bales for them to get in....if I lose my ducks too cold I'll just be done with them.....but everyone has assured me they will be fine.....I'm shocked my wife's car started this morning I thought for sure she was gonna be waking me up to take her to work.
In my experience they are far better suited for the cold than the chickens. I've never dealt with anything below 20 degrees though..
Yes, they are. Though I joined the duck and chicken pens last week in preparation of this weather. I only have two ducks, and wanted to be sure they had enough warmth (the chicken pen is warmer).
No I was going to do the float test end of day 23. The link said do not do it until after the hatch deadline
What is accomplished by float testing at that point? When an egg has incubated for 3 weeks or so, won't it float whether it contains an embryo or not?
The live ones will spin as the chick kicks around.
