Note to self: I will never, never, never break open an egg after hatch completion to check to see why they didn't hatch until 48 hours after last hatch. I killed a chick today.
I'm sorry that happened.

They work best if you can get a male. He needs to be gelded so it should be three when that is done. They have about twenty years so they outlast a dog.
Here is William who is at my house and I keep another one at my friend's house with my goat there. He is Si and is sunning himself.

Nice, how big do Llamas get?

Fisherlady was here yesterday, returning my ducklings that she had been taken care of for me. Since the chickens came from her, she brought her camera to record their progress. It is hard to believe that it is the same flock I see every time I look outside.

They are lovely!

That's awesome!

not sold on the wool part, and they spit

They are very cute though :)
The spit thing is something I have never seen. That is more at each other. I have only had one very stressed after his move even make the precurser treating to spit sound.
I have had them for three years without seeing it. They also only eat a bale a week.

Speaking of llamas spitting...I'll never forget in college when I worked at a place called Green Acres Farm - it was basically a giant petting zoo of sorts but schools came and we taught the classes about the animals...pigs, horses, llamas, calves, chicks and ducklings, etc...
Anyway, a guy I was dating at the time came to see me as I was getting off work and we had a llama that was literally on the brink of giving birth and she'd been very temperamental throughout her pregnancy. Well, this guy goes over there and is basically staring right at her - face to face. And I said "I wouldn't do that...she's not in the best mood, plus they spit..."

And he looked at me like "whatever"...looked back at her and made a face and kind of postured at her ...yup...she spit RIGHT in his face lol...I lmao...it was great. He asked for it. And she had an adorable wittle baby later that week!

Well that's a crummy way to get out of it lol! I just finished doing it...fun fun! The only thing I detest about chickies!!
People pay for manure! Chicken manure makes great fertilizer if you let it age for a year; otherwise, it's too "hot" to use. Rabbit manure can be used right out of the rabbit. I've known of people that built rabbit hutches in their garden

I'm cleaning out brooders in a different location than our farm though...now, at the farm, yes we pile everything from the coops when I clean them out and let it compost off to the side of the garden and when it's ready to be used, hubs tills it into the garden.
You're right, people pay big bucks all over for chicken manure for gardens!! I'd actually sell it if we didn't use it lol and I don't really wanna haul the brooder junk from here to the farm

llama poop can be used right away too, and most of them do piles.
@mlm Mike It depends on the breed. Si is smaller with his head just shorter than mine at 5'6" and William is bigger with his head near 6'

And in the process you are degenerating a very important feature of your brain!
It isn't true that the brain has a capacity, it is virtually limitless in it capabilities!
But that ir true only if you practice and let your brain to do an effort! If you lrt the tip of your fingers and Google to the work for it, you are doomed!

My Great-Grandma Henson was a retired school teacher from Arkansas. She used to tell us great-grandkids that your brain is a muscle and if you don't use it daily it will get limp and weak. Everyday she would work the New York Times crossword puzzle. She died at 96 and it wasn't until her health failed her at 95 that she lost her edge. I run into people that I grew up with and find myself wondering when did they check their brain? They can only converse about football and laundry soap (just the women) and clothes or the most boring (to my mind) TV shows in existence. Some of them were A and B students in high school. They have no curiosity left. No desire to learn a new thing. I have to work to control myself and not scream and run from the room.
