Hi Pensmaster! Seven is a good number. She's not coming at you anymore?

If there is enough interest, I would go over the local person's head.

"Fancy" is their (4-H) term, not mine.
I've asked. We will see. Since this year is underway.... we'd have to wait to coordinate it for next year anyways at this point. But, that will give me time to figure out how to help facilitate something with the chicken coordinator if we can get enough interest. They were very NOT helpful when she took over the chicken stuff.

Didn't understand you, "A and M"?

It's our local agricultural program. It's the one that keeps track of livestock.

So the purpose is not to educate children to be responsible and to do balancing of expenses earnings by teaching them how to take care of animals and sell them? What is the purpose of it?

The 4h club is meant to teach a variety of skills, but the ones here, don't have some of the events, that I find valuable that other clubs do :(

We live in a place, where people are often extremely irresponsible with their animals, too. You can find packs of wild dogs that were dumped, at my husbands work, they trap and spay/neuter the cats that get dumped, and re-release them.

So, I can't say i'm not surprised that the local club doesn't have the variety that you'd expect in fancier places.

Quote: From what you've been saying, the whole affair sounds more political than anything, which is a shame. One of my kids tried 4H, but didn't stay long...don't know why. Maybe because this area was very farm / livestock oriented, and we had neither at the time. Still plenty of 4H stock at the county fair, and it brings TOP prices. The larger grocery chains are usually good for a couple steers every year. The kids also learn about grooming & showmanship, the prices they get help pay for the follow year's project animal. They have, cattle, sheep, swine, goats, rabbits, chickens (when AI doesn't cause them to be cancelled); just about any livestock category imaginable...big deal around here, along with FFA.
