TJ, you asked how much the mama dog weighed..I don't know. She is smaller than the dad, but not by much, he is a small one too. My boy that I showed, is loooong. lol..He looks better than when we got him. He was so thin. Took a while to get his weight up..and he looks thin to this day, but he is just right. I know most Dachshunds have a hard time keeping weight down, not this guy.
Anyway, now the mama dog is having a hard time keeping her milk in for all of these babies. So, my daughter is bottle feeding them at times. Plus, she is letting the two girls feed first, before the hog boys get in. alternating this so they all get some of moms' milk. I don't think she will be breeding her again.

Well I think my chick is gone for good.  No sign of her this morning still and there was a **** stray cat in the yard.  You guys think a cat could take a 2 month chick?  My cats have never been interested in them, so I didn't even consider it.

Hi cynth! how is your hal ending?

I have 40 eggs in the bator. Though 10 are shipped and 9 of those seem to be duds or very early deaths. The rest are mixes and seem fine.

Aw sorry to hear your shipped eggs didn't fare well. It's tough when we have to rely on shipped eggs for breeds we want. Hope your mixed eggs do well!

I started with 16 (14 Dominiques and 2 BCM) at day 10 I pitched 1 clear Dom so I'm down to 15 eggs. Will candle tonight for day 14 and hopefully go into lockdown with 15 eggs on Saturday.

Yes and I go into lockdown saturday.

I've got a shower stall in the basement I've been thinking about using as a winter brooder.

Good luck!!
Yeah mine were in a large box first but they were getting too rambunctious so I had to load up the tub with shavings and turn them loose in there until this harsh cold passes then I can get them moved out.
I figure a shower stall would work pretty well for you! They are easier than a wood brooder to clean, that's for sure!

@Sally Sunshine :hugs Hi Sally!!! Congrats on your Educator badge

Did you try to stew them in a long and slow coocking?

Yes they are fine slow cooked.

In the house to grab some lunch now. Just got back from getting a pair of new batteries for the Cummins. Next I'm off to build fence for the afternoon.

I also have eggs I'm locking down today for a Friday hatch.

I've got 1.5 week olds down to 5 day olds in my master bathroom tub and I'm kicking them out to their brooder coop this weekend when it's supposed to be in the upper 40's. No way they are staying in here up to a month lol. Then I'll bleach the tub so I can have it ready for this next group of chicks in a few weeks. Not sure if I will do this again next winter. Wait? Who am I kidding?! Ok maybe.

At least you coulda put them in the guest bathroom tub!
