I know it says to have heat until they are fully feathered, but there are forty eight chicks in the 8.5x10 insulated shed coop I built last fall. With the days going up to high sixties to today's 81(hottest yet). And forecasts for lows in the upper thirties and highs forcasted for high sixties or low seventies all week with the coop all shut up and the 30x60" window that faces West I am worried about the heat. I went to a regular 75w bulb.
Do they need the heat? When it was 5° I could keep water in the coop and it did not freeze.Here are the youngest from last week, and the coop.
