Sexing Silkies

Thread Starter
I got three straight run silkies recently, they are four months old. Wondering if anyone could help me figure out if I have girls or boys (not supposed to have roosters in my area).

I think the biggest one with the comb and blue ears sticking out is a rooster. Recently hearing a lot of noise out of that one too. Not as loud as roosters I've heard but noisy! My sister disagrees because it's very affectionate and has bonded the strongest with the family (it acts like a dog).
There's one that has a super fluffy head and I think she's a girl.
Then there is the one with the buff-ish neck, and I have no clue on that one.
Any help would be very appreciated!

I would say the bird #1 is a cockerel and the others are pullets.

Your sister is incorrect. Many roosters, including Silkies, are just as affectionate and friendly as hens, often moreso.

No.1  definite cockerel  with an improper comb  - silkies should have walnut combs.  I would not  use him for breeding,  I can't see the combs on the others but, they look feminine in build - I consider them probable pullets.

I agree.

Feel free to ask me questions about chicken and rabbit care, breeds, and showing! I'm always happy to help!

Thank you for the advice! I wouldn't be able to keep the rooster anyway, and not interested in breeding anyway lol.
What does it mean to have an improper comb? Does it indicate health problems? Does it hurt the bird/cause it problems?
Just curious since I'm new, thank you!

Improper means it's not aligned to the Standard of Perfection. It's considered incorrect for the bird. It won't hurt him.
