I'm not sure what happened but, I just noticed this today. I need to know what to do please.

Flush it out with peroxide and apply antibiotic ointment. You should also keep her separated from the rest of your flock until it heals. If you don't, the other chickens will most likely peck at it and make it worse. I hope she gets better soon and keep me posted!

You may want to use sterile saline instead of peroxide to flush the wound. Sometimes peroxide is bad for fragile skin so I wouldn't use it on the chickens head. Sorry for the misinformation.

How often should I clean and apply ointment? She was just rolling and giving herself a dirt bath and now has dirt all over her head. Will the dirt make it worse?

I'm sorry it has taken me so long to respond! I would flush it 1-2 times a day. Dust baths are okay I think and I don't believe they will make it worse.

I think she's going to be ok. She's running around with the rest of the flock and eating and drinking good. No signs of lethargy or staying away from the others. She gets right in there! Other than feathers sticking up from ointment and dirty from dust baths she's good. Thanks for the info.
