How often do chickens molt?

This is the first molt we have been through. I figured that our Ameraucana was molting but she had also become off balance. In the past few days we upped her protein and electrolytes. She seems to much happier and her feathers are obviously starting to come back. Overall, quite an experience for us! (we got good advice on this board a couple days back!)
 
When your hens started to molt, did they exhibit any different behavior? I can't tell if my hen is going broody or starting to molt or sick.
The thing that is different with her is that she sleeps in the nesting box and spends more time in there during the day without laying anything. Other than that she seems the same. No swollen abdomen, discoloration, or lack of balance. she is one year and about 3 months old.
Does anyone have any info?
 
i have a 4 1/2 year old hen, that went into her molt 2 months ago. full blown molt, lost all her feathers, stop laying eggs, etc. A few days ago, she stopped eating and is losing feathers. just like she does when she molts. Is it possiible she is going thru another molt? The first molt in October was earlier than she has in the past.
