Niederrheiner Thread! All Colors!

Does anyone know who’s offering Niederrheiner chicks now? I can’t find anyone, besides Uberchic and I don’t have room for 25…

McMurray lost a whole lot of chickens in a recent disaster and they are not listing the Niederrheiners anymore.
Ok, I heard back from them and they told me their Niederrheiners were not affected by the avian flu outbreak, but they are not selling them right now, though hopefully again soon. Keeping my fingers crossed!

I ordered Niederrheiners, among others, from McMurrays. I placed my order last Dec for mid- April shipping. All but 1 died within 2 days (not avian flu) so they replaced them. At that time they only had a few left set for sale so I got 5 and a bielefelder.
They arrived June 22. One Nied died on day two, the rest are thriving at 2 weeks old.
My advice is to place your order very early, like late 2022 for Spring or early summer ship, as they run out quickly.

Niederrhieners are a German breed, large birds, faster growing than Bielefelder, great dual purpose and cold hardy. They are def available in the US. I got mine from McMurrays and I am in Northern MI.
Lemon cuckoo LC is a color and pattern of irregular barring in both sexes with males being lighter in color and females, well, lemon. My LCN came from McMurrays as st run. I got 2 male 3 female. The female color wildly varies and they don’t all have pink legs, which tells me that their stock is very muddled. As long as you don’t show and don’t care then they are great friendly birds, consistent layers, and the cockerels grow to 4-5 lbs dressed weight by 12 weeks (I HAD to cull at that age, another story—16 wks would be better).

They are cool birds, friendly in a mixed flock. 😊

@CoopBoots
For your info re McMurry LCN. It would take a lot of work to get a consistent color and pattern from their pullets. Basically a crap shoot. Out of 5 pullets only two were actually light buff, and one of those had no visible barring. They are sweet birds though. Good luck
