I am on day 22 of my incubation, no chicks....when I locked I candled them, they were all grown inside egg....I just checked a few, no movement...large air sac...what did I do wrong? I don't know the humidity...I have both trays full of water, the temp is at 102*, I read that that was the optimal temperature for a still air incubator. Did I kill them all? Should I wait another day or so? I just candled 4 of them to check..no movement, no cheeping...nothing....I have 18 chicks in there!
 
sometimes there is no movement in an egg when they are getting ready to hatch, but if you are at day 22 and still have a large air sac that doesn't sound real good but I have had chicks hatch on day 23. 102 is fine for still air.
 
You may have had an incorrect thermometer. And also, still air incubators are notorious for cold spots. Yes, I would wait another day, maybe even 2 days. I had a day 25/26 chick that I had to break out of his shell that survived (even though he was a little deformed)

ok that could be part of it...its from a friend, and its my first time using it...it may be off a bit....bummer....

I'd also question the humidity levels for the first 17 days. Many late deaths (after lockdown) are usually low temps over an average or high humidity over the first 17 days not allowing the egg to loose enough moisture causing death at hatch time.
 
one of the first hatches I had I had too much water in my incubator, (maybe 2 pie pans) because people kept mentioning hydrating, anyway I think I had 4 dark brown eggs and one white egg in the incubator, and when I would candle, I only candled the white one because I could not see in the others. because I was new, I candled too much probably, but the white one was the only one that hatched, because I was drying it out. I dry hatch now, depending on how small my homemade incubator is. with a bigger one I may put a bit of water in and don't "lockdown " until first pip. I also when I candle don't lock down till the pointed end of the egg is dark.

From what I understand, your darker eggs, because they have more pigmentation loose moisture slower than a lighter colored egg. The more "knowledgeable" can correct me if I am wrong, but it was something that came up in a discussion about BCM's and why they fair better with low humidity incubations.

I live in the desert....so I added what was called for as far as water, I put in another thermometer and its reading the same as the first....I will give them another day or so....its worse then Christmas...if they all died, I will feel terrible...so close to life, then snatched away, I will try again though with a friends incubator....
