Everyone calls me Puma..... I am 41, male and live in Florida.

My young daughters have a program in school where they watch eggs hatch. Then they call the parents and let them know they are know chicken owners....lol. Of course only if you accept. So, I did and built a little brooding cage for them and started on building a coop for them. This was back in May.

Fast forward to today.....I have added 2 more chickens to the ones the school gave us...as they both became Roosters grrrrr. I found a local guy willing to sell me a couple of his hens and I added them to the coop. After a few days of getting used to each other we have a nice 4 chicken flock.

Here are my 2 Roosters. I noticed Rick has a wound on his butt this morning....I think I might have to separate the 2 roosters. I never hear them fighting, but obviously something happened.

And the young Ladies

and my first egg came in last night. I'm not sure which one laid it, but I suspect Black by the change in behavior.

I also have no idea what kind of chickens I have, so any help would be great.

Thanks for having me

Welcome to BYC, Puma. Glad you decided to join our flock. Congratulations! It's always so egg-citing to get that first egg.) You have a beautiful flock. Thanks for posting the pics. If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is lots of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.

I have an Aracauna chicken named Clara that lays beautiful blue eggs like the one in your pic. This is my first time with chickens too, so maybe that is what you have! What a good daddy to put the time in and work with the the baby chicks for his baby chicks!

Congratulations on your first egg., with many, many more to follow. You can post photos at "what breed or gender is that." and should get more opinions there. Welcome to Backyard chickens, glad to have you join us.
