Almost gave up checking nest boxes for the first time in probably two straight weeks. Luckily I decided to check as this time there was a second egg next to a ceramic one in a nest box. Small but basically perfect. Not soft at all and I only feed Purina Flock Raiser with oyster shell on the side as I have two cockerels. I'm going to have to step up my game on the outside egg hunt now that I know someone is laying. There are 7 RIR and 4 Deleware pullets all 21 and a half weeks old. My bets on the Rhode Island but we shall see. Basically every bird has enlarged waddles and combs that go bright red to light red off and on throughout the day. Never heard an egg song and I surely haven't seen anyone willing squat to any cockerels or my hand.

Well I didn't find any the next day but did find one on Thursday and a warm one first thing this morning after hearing a short egg song. All have been perfect as far as seemingly healthy and not soft. Have a total of 3 now and will check later again today. There is 11 pullets total. Haven't cracked any open yet as I'm curious how they look and if they are fertile. All fertile eggs will have the bullseye correct?

Now up to 5 in 6 days with one found 3 days in a row. Still haven't found more then one in a day so far. They have all been solid, and every one has ended up in a nest box so far. I couldn't have done it without lots of prep and knowledge that I gained from places such as BYC! Thanks all. On a side note I noticed the last egg was more rough then the others. Instead of being smooth it had a sand paper feel to it. Not concerned at all, just an interesting observation. What causes this difference?
