"I am a chicken owner". A phrase not many care to hear about unless they are chicken owners. Which is a personal Philosophy. Luckily, we are all chicken owners/aspiring chicken owners.

So, I am a chicken owner, indeed.

I am 16, I am an agriculture, photography, art, and common core student. I live in the windiest part of Arizona (or so I believe it) where I own 7 chickens.

7 wonderful feathery fluffy chickens, full of life and personality and a taste for expensive earrings (I should know)

My chickens started out as a thought, after my parents turned down the idea of having a rabbit for my Ag. project in school. They said I needed to have something productive, and that is easy to care for. So I chose chickens.

We bought 4 chickens from a local supply store on August 24th of 2015, 2 Barred Rock pullets, about 17 weeks old, and 2 bantam silkie pullets, a Buff and a White, about 12 weeks old. I named them:

Pullito ( Largest Barred Rock pullet)
Go-Pro ( Lightest Colored Barred Rock Pullet)
Yukon ( White Bantam Silkie)
&
Nugget ( Buff Bantam Silkie)

The chicken coop was still under construction at the time, so we kept them in the laundry room.

The next day, we went to get the final materials for the chicken coop. It took a while, as we had to stop at ace.

Where there happened to be chickens. 4 week old chickens. 3 to be precise. Now, at this point, my dad had made it clear that we were only going to have 6 chickens, as he had made an egg box with 6 sections. Little did he know, my brown eyes COULD indeed, get bigger, and we ended up taking home all 3 of the chicks. Their names are:

Finn ( 4 week old Barred Rock)
Quinn ( 4 week old Barred Rock)
Reeba ( 4 week old Gold Laced Wynadotte)

It is now November 4th, and my chickens and I have been through a lot, injuries, to wing clipping, to getting the first 2 eggs yesterday morning, and my Buff Bantam Silkie Pullet turning out to be a Buff Bantam Silkie Rooster.

I will continur to keep everyone updated and entertained at the leats in this thread, and will be posting pictures of my dear chickens soon.

Ta Ta for now

( Tonight is Chinese food night)

Several things, @Banaynaychicken :

1. Chinese food is one of my favorites, but DH isn't a fan so I almost never get to have it. I'm a little envious! What's your favorite dish?

2. All members here become victims of chicken fever. I've got 8 chicks who are 6 weeks old and already planning on expansions. You are not at fault for NEEDING those extra chickens. You cannot be blamed. Your father would have to understand, as he surely did since you brought them home with you.

3. You're a skilled writer! I look forward to reading more of your posts!

4. If your photography is as good as your writing, I look forward to your photos!

That's all for now! Have a wonderful evening!

Definitely Jasmine Rice and Chicken Lettuce Wraps.

I hear you, the 3 that we bought the second day were buy 2 for $10, get one free, so we had to take all of them

Thank you, I love to read/write older types of writing "The Children's Crusade" "The Outsiders" , "Game of Thrones" has some detailed older toned writing as well,

I've been told my Photography is "well taken" I got a purple (best in show) last year in fair for 2 of my photos, and the rest were blues and reds. I'm certainly improving, , but the chickens definitely help. They sit so calmly while I take their pictures. Well, at least Yukon, Nugget, Pullito, and Quinn do. Go-Pro Finn and Reeba are the naughty ones.

No egg laid today by either of my Barred Rock hens, much to the shegrin of my mother, but I did show my Silkie, Yukon, and my Gold Laced Wynadotte, Reeba, at a 4H meeting last night for a Demonstrated/Illustrative Talk (Required informative talk for 4H projects)

They did rather well during the talk, with not a squawk or babble, or panicked flap of the wing. So in short, all went well, and everyone was well informed, and entertained. I'm pleased to say I will (Knock on wood) be adding a new addition to my flock, but unfortunately, at the loss (And by loss I mean Re-homing) of my favorite Silkie Bantam Rooster, Nugget.

I am hoping for a Standard Silkie this time, and preferably Red or Blue, luckily, Silkies are always available at my Local Feed Store, so I should be in good standing with my expectations!

Thats all for tonight!

Ta Ta for now!

(Tonight is Fakes-giving Dinner, because it is to early to be considered Thanksgiving

This week, we have had 4 eggs total, 2 eggs per chicken, since they started laying. So far, their laying is random, and doesn't really have a pattern or order yet, but i'm sure it is because winter is coming.

As for the other chickens, I clipped the silkies wings, patched up a broken/bleeding feather shaft with some Neosporin, and pomegranate treats for good behavior and minimal panicked flapping.

Nugget (Buff male Bantam Silkie Rooster) is still at my house, waiting for his new owner.

Ta Ta for now,

(Tonight we are having BBQ'ed chicken)
