The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Well I'm up - today I get the hot dog & big pop combo for $1.64 at Sam's club. Can hardly wait.

Your day sounds about as exciting as mine.

I had to run into town for errands this morning. That turned into the scariest drive I've had this winter. Before I could get back home the snow started falling, the wind was blowing and visibility dropped fast to about 25 feet. The only thing that showed me where the road was were the scrubby prairie weeds poking up through the drifts on either side of the road.

That was a lonnnng 12 miles. And of course, I got stuck in the driveway trying to get the car back in the garage. Fortunately one of my errands included picking up a snow shovel. And even more fortunately, the young guy that works for DH was at our house for lunch and dug me out.

Alls well that ended well, but I don't think I'll be going any where for a couple days. It's going to take that long to get over the shakes.

Thanks OHLD, I couldn't believe how fast the conditions changed. I'm learning though!

Debby, I am so glad you made it home safely. White out conditions are disorienting and terrifying; you don't dare stop, but you're also afraid to keep going. Do you reckon that young fella has ever been an angel before?

I'm kinda "betwixt and between" today; I had some eggs hatch over the weekend. Out of 7 eggs, I have 4 healthy, lively chicks brooding in a 55 gallon aquarium (we call it the "chickavision"). There are two others sitting in teacups in the incubator. One is spraddle legged; I've used a bandaid to pull the legs back toward each other but it has yet to get to its feet, and the other keeps flipping on its back - I think it has wry neck. I don't remember having so much trouble with them after hatching; it's getting them to hatch that has usually been my problem.

Bunny, glad you got 4 healthy babies but sorry about the other 2. Some would say to let them go now and others would say to do everything possible to get them healthy. You have to go with your gut I think. For me, I'd have a hard time dealing with the wry neck especially (one of the first chicks I ever got had that and I lost her). Keep us posted on how they fare, ok?

As for the young fella being an angel...he very well might be, he's a good guy and we're sorry to be losing him. He starts a new job Wednesday but has promised to drop in at the golf course throughout the summer

Seems like the best employees you can't keep and the bad ones won't go without being chased off with a broom.

I figure I'll go get some poly vi sol and see how they do. If they don't make it, hey, I gave 'em a chance. I find it very hard to extinguish the spark of something that seems to want to live that badly, but if they just can't make it, I won't cry. Heaven knows, I've been down this route about a million times with rabbits.
