Suddenly refusing fermented food

Yep, it's normal for them to be cranky during molt, to humans and to each other. It's both an itchy and a vulnerable time for them. I'd not worry too much about what they eat right now...just offer the FF and let them range. They'll eat what they need and leave the rest. Then you can feed less the next day until they are cleaning up everything you've fed. They won't starve themselves and they are tucking in good nutrients right now as they go into winter so they often know best about what they are needing.

Not much other than they can't bill out the food all over the floor as well as they can when it's dry. Makes it a little easier to get a big mouthful than when dry, as well.
There is a HUGE benefit to fermenting feed other that them not spilling it. The reason the feed bill drops when owners begin correct fermentation is when fermentation is done correctly, we as humans, are "partially digesting" the feed for them. Chickens lack the necessary enzymes in their gut to EFFICIENTLY DIGEST whole, unfermented feed. I have been fermenting feed for about 4 months now and my feed bill has dropped drastically and I have had ABSOLUTELY NO HEALTH PROBLEMS from my birds.
