He was talking about hers
That's ok, I think Johnny's gay anyway
eta - not that there's anything wrong with that...
No ones going to point out the fact that Ravyn and SC are comparing co....roosters!?
What does the SOP call for?
That is my go to reference for my breeding matchups. Paul (and Ravyn ) suggested the best blues come from one black parent, that's why I came up with the combinations I did.
Think of splash as a dilution gene. If I mated my splash rooster to my splash hen, I would get 100% splash chicks, but the dark color would start washing out. I'm trying to use the darkest birds possible to produce the colors I want. I have 3 blue hens with the black rooster, and all are a much lighter blue than the one in the other pen. If I get darker hens this year, I will replace those 3 lighter ones
These are the blues and a splash with Johnny
See how much darker the blue behind Jack is? The edging on her feathers is much more pronounced, and gives her a much better overall look
Dang SC I'm going to have to get some eggs from you later this season if you end up with enough to sell. Those birds look amazing. Foley says he likes to breed his BLRW with a Blue x Blue. He said that is how the germans do it and it results in a more consistent blue on the offspring. I guess black or splash can have varied color of blue offspring? He said he does bring in a good black once every few years to darken the blue back up a bit. I know that's in BLR, but the gene should act the same since its the same BL gene.
was going to.......but then sc admitted he was losing........
