I think they just didn't start strong last fall and waited for spring. I only had like 2 or 3 laying last fall. Up to at least 5 of 7 girls now.
These 19 ain't nothing...I have over 200 eggs still in the incubator, and adding another 60 or so tomorrow.
I have one RSL hen with only the back toe, several with missing last joint, and several with missing toes. Mine were bought from a dealer, and were in cages in a trailer in negative temps. Frostbite got them. They are now going on two years old and you'd never know without looking, the hen with a knob even roosts just fine.
