Hi,

I'm new here. My name is Diane and I live in Louisiana between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Currently I am in swamp land, but I was raised in the city so raising chickens, or in our case, quail is new. I remember my dad raised some chickens when I was a kid, but I was not involved. We have yet to start our endeavor, pretty much gathering information right now. I started reading over the quail forums today and I'm learning a lot. Our plan is to raise for eggs. The SO loves pickled quail eggs and they are getting harder to find. So far we have been given a chicken coop that sits off the ground. I'm told we can probably raise 75-100 quail in it, but that is not our intention. We are planning to start off with a dozen to see how it goes.

Welcome to BYC, Diane. Glad you decided to join our flock. I'm a chicken person who never owned any quail, but they sure are cute little birds.) Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your quail.

Hi :welcome Diane

Glad you could join the flock! I've hatched and raised some cortunix quail in the past and they were fab little birds to keep. I really enjoyed them and I'm sure you will too. There is a lovely quail section in the learning centre that has some great articles. Here is the link if you have not already checked it out ~https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/other-backyard-poultry-ducks-quail-turkeys-geese-etc

Wishing you the very best of luck in the future.

Enjoy BYC :frow
