How long can a chick last before it must externally pip? Basically, how long will the air in the aircell last before the chick runs out of air?
I've been listening to this chick peeping almost half the day, but it hasn't broken through the shell yet. I am just wondering when would it be necessary to step in.
If it is the same breed and the others have hatched, get a sewing needle and carefully poke a hole in the top.
Sometimes they lose their egg tooth. You might have to get it out but be very careful if you do.
Read the assisted hatching thread again.
Thank you. It poked a tiny hole in the top of the aircell. Hopfully that will give the chick enough time to break through the shell on it's own.
(The chick is a mixed breed olive egg. The other olive egg chick already hatched.)
