Quote: Svarthöna literally translates to "Black Hen". They are also known as Swedish Black Hens and are all black - inside and out - combs, wattles, feet, meat, bones, etc.
Congrats on the chicks! Mine are still hatching, too.I got 3 hours sleep. At 5 chicks now.
Congrats on your chicks!Good Morning!!
Congrats to everyone else with Chickeis!!
I have 7 chicks!! All 7 HAL chicks hatched.
I still have 2 from the 12/26 hatch in the "bator, I candled them last night. they both have movement, but no chirping, so I might crack them today to see what is going on.
I have 6 that I slipped into the bator a couple days after the 11th, 2 of those were clear, but one of those pipped last night.
I have 12 that I set on 12/26. They looked good at day 7.
Thanks for everyone's help getting this far!We can have another HAL! I set 9 eggs on the 26th also, but I pulled 3 clears yesterday. Two of the clears were from my new layer in the project pen. I opened a couple she laid after those and they were fertile, so more went in yesterday, along with more Isbars and more Svarthöna.
I am up to 2 chicks now for this HAL, both Svarthöna, although one is blue. I have heard about the blue ones, but this is the first one that I have hatched. I'll get pictures when I take them out of the incubator. At least 2 more Svarthöna eggs are pipped. I can't tell on the rest. Nothing from the 2 project eggs yet (1st project pen), but they were set 2 days after the Svarthöna.
Ooooh...black.They're gorgeous! Thank you for the info and pics.
I'm so sorry! One of the BCM chicks died!!!I don't know what happened. The chicks were all fluffed out and safe in the brooder. Had to go out this afternoon for several reasons. When we got back I checked on the chicks first thing and a BCM was on its back dead. Everyone else seems good. They are walking around the brooder as if nothing is wrong.
Quote:It happens. Some chicks, as much as we want them, are not meant to be.
Quote: I have an email in to the company, but I will probably not hear anything until Monday.
Very cute!Congratulations!
I am back after the Internet outage here--The cable that goes under the street was bad. It has a temporary fix now so I am up!Welcome back! I wish we had cable internet. The only thing we can get, beside dial-up, is Hughesnet (satellite).
Here are my 5 Svarthöna that have hatched. I am having trouble uploading pics, so this is the best I can do for now. Blacks are hard to photograph so I had to shine the light right on them just so you can see there are five. They are darker than they look in the picture. I'll try for better ones tomorrow after they are rested, fed and watered. One may need a bath as it was a little sticky. I have one more Svarthöna egg (set a day later than these) and one project egg (set 2 days after these) still going. I hope I can keep the humidity good for them.
So fluffy!!! I've got silkie eggs waiting for me at the post office- too bad they weren't open today
12 plus.
I am a total newbie.
U know any good helpful threads?
They are so stinking cute. I just love those adorable little fuzz balls. I need to get me some silkie eggs for Easter's hatch.
Mine completely shuts down and says there was some sort of error and restarts. Though it was just my pad. However nothing else is doing it.
