I think i bought the wrong coop for Florida, help please

I agree yellowchicks. Just add some 2x4s for support and plywood as walls. I would leave one side open (with hardware cloth) for ventilation. Also use hardware cloth to cover the entire floor to protect the chickens from predators.

The coop is at least covered by hardware cloth not chicken wire, so it shouldn't be too bad and can be converted to a bigger one easily.

Hello! well i took out the window and put the wire there to start, i think taking the whole back out is a good idea too and bracing it with 2 x 4's here is the pic of the "upstairs" i have the roost boxes closed off to them because they are only 7 weeks, i am pretty sure they are just laying on the "tray" thing and not on the roost sticks, i am wondering if after they are older maybe i will just take that out and have a ramp going to their boxes.... either way we are obviously going to have to add and basically redesign the thing, hopefully others will learn from my mistake.... thanks for all the help and advise!
 
If you decide to build a new coop, hold on that that one anyway. Tarp it if you have to, but don't toss it. They are wonderful to have on hand if you have to isolate a sick or injured bird, and they make great broody houses! It has plenty of open areas where the run and the under-coop side is, and you said you were able to move it, so if you ever needed to use it you could simply set it near your new coop and run so chickens in both can see each other all the time. So when it's getting close to time to re-integrate the isolated bird, putting it near the existing set-up will help tremendously in gradually reintroducing them. Same with a broody hen or if you brood chicks..... I wish I had one!

Thanks, if i put the wire on the bottom do you suggest using "river sand" as i have seen a lot of people recommend that, also what do you think about taking out the "poop tray" and putting it at the bottom at night so there is no bottom and they can get up to the roost bars and nest boxes?

Thanks! you guys are the best! When i talk to my husband about it he just gets this glazed look in his eyes, he has a koi pond, much more relaxing and easy to deal with than my Golden Girls! hahahahha!
