Not sure if this is the right place for this thread or not so if not, please feel free to move it or whatever you do but wasn't sure where to put it.
So.
First of all, everyone I or.my mom have told about our chickens (her friend on the bus, my nana, and today my aunt) has asked if we need a rooster for eggs. Normal question for non-chicken people I suppose but kind of.funny. All thought you needed one.
Second, when my mom was talking to my aunt she started asking me all this weird stuff, and even almost getting mad at me for not knowing. But she wasn't making any sense at all.
She kept asking how we know if the egg is fertilized or not/if you're eating an egg that could possibly turn into a chick, talking about pregnant chickens, if they stop laying while they're pregnant/the chick is inside and I just.. It was confusing but now also hard to not laugh lol
I kept being like "well we don't have a rooster so they wouldn't be" and then she would ask again, same reply, and she'd be all like "well pretend we have a rooster!" now, I realize I should have known what she meant but I'm pretty literal. Besides, I think I did know but she kept asking it.so
Then I tried saying chickens don't get pregnant and they fertilize the egg and the chick develops outside in the egg.
Well then it was well how do we know.
The answer to that was "you don't" to which she was also frustrated and like "you don't!?" and I think I said "well you can look but you can't really tell until later, in the beginning it's the same"
Well anyway, I'm probably not making sense now but was just a very frustrating and unnecessarily tense moment earlier

How DO you tell? Am I right that there's really no way to tell until a bit.later when it starts developing or no?
