Hi,

Read a lot of helpful threads here and thought why not just join and so I did. I'm very glad to be here and hope to be a contributing member.

This is a intro + help thread as I need some help too :)

I'm new in to this chicken world. I just got about like 12 simple bantom and 10 golden buff. I get around like 5 - 7 eggs per day. I've been incubating them for like 2 months. My hatching rate is really really bad. Like 10%. Every 1 out of 10 eggs makes it. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here and I'm in dire need of help.

I have to incubators (small old fashioned) one is where the eggs stays from day 1 - 18 and then I move them to the other same model incubator which is less crowded so egg can hatch easily and chick can rest.

My primary incubator have a temperature of 99.5 - 100.5 temperature. I flip eggs about 3 - 4 times a day. After ready some thread I just put a temp humidity checker in the incubator and trying to raise the humidity to 50% right now it's 30%. I'm really depressed about the hatching rate as this not what I was hoping for. I hope I can get some expert opinion on this :).

I gather eggs for about 2 days in that basket you see before putting them in incubator. I mark from which cage they came and the date I got them and put them in incubator for the sake of statistic.

The incubator with the triangular cut mirror is the secondary one.

Cheers, fellas.

Welcome to byc..you may want to check out the learning center.. look for the incubation threads..
Off the top of my head I think it might have to do with air flow.. do you have fans in the incubator? It's important for good circulation so there's no cold or hot spots.

Here is a link to the incubating & hatching forum, someone there should be able to help you figure out what is happening:

I hope your hatch rates improve. If you have questions, always feel free to ask.

Thanks for joining us!

I candle eggs in its 17th - 18th day before I shift them to the secondary incubator where they are suppose to hatch. I discard which seems infertile but to be honest, I'm not really sure what I have to be looking for while candling
