1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
• Black Copper Marans, Ameraucanas, Isbars, Speckled Sussex, and English Lemon Cuckoo Orpingtons. Ages for the orps = 4-5 months, ages for everyone else = 2 months maybe. They're still babies.
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
• Overly watery poop, some are fluffed up more than others, one has sour crop, all are eating and drinking normally.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
• Since we got them, whe they were around a week or two old. Three died when we first got them. They came to us already sick. Sussex and Orps were fine until they were introduced to each other. The respiratory issue they had thrn we treated with tetroxy, it has since cleared up. Now we have symptoms of cocci kicking in.
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms? N/A
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma. N/A
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
• Some lady gave us sick birds. One was already dead in the box prior to opening it. Two more died a week or so later. Cocci probably just came from them free ranging occasionally while they already had somewhat lowered immune systems due to respiratory problems (I think?).
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
• Fresh clean water, started chick feed. Sometimes the feed is medicated, sometimes not. They were treated for respiratory problems when we first got them using Tetroxy (or whatever it's called).
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
• Runny, sometimes watery, the sour crop chick is occasionally throwing up and pooping out strong smelling substance.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
• Keeping the coop clean, providing fresh water, tetroxy for respiratory problems prior to other issues - they were sneezing a lot and could not breathe well prior to tetroxy treatment.
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
• I plan on treating for cocci at this point, using Corid 9.6 Oral Solution (liquid) in their water containers. The chicken with sour crop will also be treated for cocci as well as his crop issue (sour crop i just plan on withholding food for a day or so, feeding plain yogart, and having him throw up - done that twice, first time it was more liquidy, 2nd it was a bit more solid which is why now I will withold food.)
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help. N/A
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use
• Amazing coop built by my boyfriend. Bedding is wood shavings which are pine and something else (bag doesnt specify but I can smell pine).
......So yeah. Been having fun with this guys. I swear I have never had so many issues with chickens before. Have had chickens for such a long time and always got lucky I guess. First we dealt eith the respitory issue which is cleared up. Now we are dealing with what appears to be cocci, and one bird who has sour crop. SO MUCH FUN. ALL THE FUN. Lol. An advice, solutions, suggestions etc are fully welcome.
ALSO: How much Corid (liquid) per gallon considering their not very heavy? I read somewhere it is likely .16oz per gallon? Am I wrong? And what about the birds that are a bit older in age (the 4-5 month olds).
