Great Pyrenees Puppy Thread!

Exactly. And you probably could have found a female that "looked" just as sound as that GSD that you could have innocently bred him to, and created more dogs with far worse hips if you hadn't known to have him checked.
even knowing that he had bad hips, I had people ask me almost daily if I would breed him. Even after telling them that he had horrible hips, they wouldnt believe it because he "looks fine"

I breed GSDs and I have invested over 12 years in research before I even purchased a puppy that could POTENTIALLY be used for breeding.
Then 2 years of training and titling before I was able to begin health tests. Then 2 more years of continued training and titling. So far, he's sired 1 litter of pups. Another female is being considered for him now, pending some additional DNA tests.

Now there's a responsible breeder.
We constantly have people asking us to breed their dogs with mine, a mix between a poodle and American Eskimo dog. I made several points: 1. He is a mixed breed, he is not to be bred further. To produce more dogs like him, only the American Eskimo and Poodle should be bred to keep the puppies healthy. 2. He has not been tested for breeding and was not purchased as a breeder. And if they still haven't backed off, I drop the final playing card. 3. He's neutered.

The very fact that she is bathing the pups every other day speaks volumes about the lack of knowledge about caring for dogs. Fleas are the absolutely easiest problem these dogs have to remedy. All they need are some flea drops or a flea pill. But, good quality flea care is expensive........ So........

I haven't bathed them ever since you guys said not too and they are all fine and please stop arguing

Enola,
I agree. Also, some of those tick and flea pills, including the ones I give to my dog, are extremely expensive! Up to five hundred dollars for a pack of what, 25? But, it is worth it if I can skip the vet bills of my dog getting lyme disease or a serious mite infection...If you are going to breed, it is all about the dogs. They are first priority.
