Pekin duck eggs

Thread Starter

I live in Rockledge Florida and we have two Pekin ducks, Cheese and Quackers.  They were incubated at the kids school and I thought it would be great to raise two of them in our back yard.

It has been great and we love them very much.  They were both 6 months this November.  We have started to get some eggs.  We were getting one small egg (chicken egg size) once a day.... then two small ones a day.... and now we are getting one really big one a day.  Are they suppose to be twice the size of a chicken egg?

Thought we had a male and a female due to the excessive mating going on.  Don't see a drake feather, when we were getting two eggs a day thought each was laying an egg...now I'm no so sure....One is louder then the other but when they think they are in danger they both get equally loud thinking I have two females....I guess we will soon find out since the school is trying to incubate the eggs....who knew that two ducks would b so interesting.

Males and Females have very different quacks. If you have two ducks and getting two eggs in a day I'd say you have two females.

Large grade A store bought chicken eggs weigh about 54 grams. My first Pekin duck eggs were pretty close to that and now average around 65+ grams. The double yolked ones average around 90+ grams. I had one double yolker that weighed in at 118 grams. Hope that gives you an idea about to expect.
