Hi Everyone!
This is my first post although i must confess to devouring this website!

Left a couple of eggs in the coop to encourage the newly laying hens to lay their eggs inside - the two older hens layed this morning and this is how i found them! One-two-three-four all in a row - the smaller two in the middle and the larger on either side..... The younger hens are Orpingtons and the older are Americanas. Maybe one is an aspiring decorator?

That's beautiful!

that's awesome :) I have 5 laying now, and they all lay in the same bin (despite having multiple choices), and it's pretty awesome to see all the different colors together!

Try nest box might be better
But that's cool either way way to smart for my liking small in the middle big on the outside like a protection thing

Your lady's have character! Mine all lay in the same box. Makes it easy for me when collecting. But it is funny beacause they stand in line to use it and sometimes one of them gets all panicked! But still will not use another box. However they will double up in there when need be, and I have even caught 3 in at the same time.

Thought the hens would pile the eggs to sit on them - watched one hen roll an egg with her beak - just never expected to see them all lined up

You will be really surprised when you see them move an egg to another nest box. Hens have a lot of ways to move eggs. I've seen a broody get an egg under her chin and carry it to another box.
