Foot Problem in one of my bantams

Hi- i've got a 2 year old sussex who has a really bad foot. she has scaly leg mite, which I  am treating and it seems to be getting better, but one foot is much worse then the other and doesn't seem to be improving.

I noticed that there was a black band around her Metatarsal 1 (the really small 4th toe at the back of her foot) which was very tight. Initially I thought she might have something wrapped around it cutting the blood off, but looking at it there was nothing there, a little bit about 1/4 away from her leg looks like it may have died, it also smelt really bad, but the 3/4 of the toe after looked alright, normal coloured but a bit swollen!

Now, its gotten worse, her toe has spun around and so the underside is facing upwards, the end bit of the toe is bluish!!! the black section is still there!.. i'm really not sure whats happening to her, she runs around the garden (although not as much as she used to) and scats everywhere, she's eating and drinking, but when she stands still she will always lift up her leg and it will be shaking, but it is getting cold now. i think that it may drop off...

i've been spraying her feet with poultry antiseptic spray (the purple one).

i was wondering if something like this has happened to anybody else's' chickens and if so what happened? or what it could be?? its never happened to any of mine!

She's going to lose that toe.  I despise cutting into living birds, so I try to avoid it whenever possible.  To aid in the drying out process that is going to have to take place before the toe falls off on its own- try soaks of straight iodine/betadine twice a day.  Iodine is very drying, so it will help to desiccate the toe faster and prevent infection at the same time.  The toe will dry out, wither up and fall off on its own, and you won't have to cut it off thereby risking doing more damage and/or opening an avenue for infection.

I had a bird lose a toe in a similar fashion.  I have no idea what happened to it.  She damaged it, it had the black band around it, the toe died, I was scared half to death that she was going to die from it, but the toe fell off and the bird lived several years after without a problem.  To this day I couldn't tell you what she did to it to cause the whole thing.
