I'm going to have to build a rub
Total of 35 in the flock right now

I just am too nervous with the cats and dogs

This is the area where the coop is, will the trees pose problems?

I think having trees in the run would be nice, they provide shade and some protection against hawks.

Depending on your birds and the height of the fence having birds fly into the trees to roost and then fly out could be a problem though, especially with juvenile birds.

I also think having trees in the run is a good thing. It will provide shade and maybe even some entertainment for the chickens. You may want to make your fence tall or you might want to trim your trees when needed or they may fligh out. If you are worried that cats may climb the chicken wire try to put up wire mesh. If your chickens are grown cats won't be a problem. Dogs can be, burry wire about a foot or deeper to prevent them from entering. Its a great idea, I have incorporated many trees into my run.:)

Hope this helped!

Cute little blue coop you have there. The old rule of for every action, there is an equal reaction is most likely going to come into play here. For every good thing the trees will do, there will be a bad thing they will also provide. So it is a 50/50 thing. I would just do it and then deal with the worst problems as they make their selves known. The birds need to get out, need to be protected and it would be a shame to not do so. I always choose to have the glass half full, rather than the glass half empty, do it and make it work.

Best to you and your birds,

RJ
