Anyone Here Good at Math? - Math and Medications

The Corid directions are for cattle, so the most cattle are supposed to get is 10mg/kg, but the bird dose is 20mg/kg.

Try forgetting about the different % levels and the Corid data sheet and calculate an oral drench at 20mg/kg based on the amount of mg's in a 1/4 tsp, 1/3 tsp or 1/2 tsp.

Thanks. I will do just that. It will probably take me a few days. Hubby is off work this week and driving me crazy already, LOL.

283.5 grams in a 10oz package = 35 Tablespoons (105 tsp) = 200 mg amprolium per gram

Amount of mg of Amprolium in

283.5g divided by (qty) measurement = grams of Corid = amount of mg of amprolium

283.5g divided by (35) Tbls = 8.1g per Tbls = 1620mg per Tbls
283.5g divided by (105) tsp = 2.7g per tsp = 540mg per tsp
283.5g divided by (210) 1/2 tsp = 1.35g per 1/2 tsp = 270mg per 1/2 tsp
283.5g divided by (315) 1/3 tsp = .90g per 1/3 tsp = 180mg per 1/3 tsp
283.5g divided by (420) 1/4 tsp = .675g per 1/4 tsp = 135mg per 1/4 tsp
283.5g divided by (840) 1/8 tsp = .3375g per 1/8 tsp = 67.5mg per 1/8 tsp
283.5g divided by (1680) 1/16 tsp = .16875g per 1/16 tsp = 33.75mg per 1/16 tsp

200mg amprolium per gram in a 10oz (283.5g) package of Corid
56700mg amprolium in package
5670mg per ounce (3-1/2 Tablespoons) (10-1/2 teaspoons)
540mg per teaspoon

20mg divided by 8.1g (per Tbls) = 2.46 Tbls
20mg divided by 2.7g (per tsp) = 7.40 tsp

20mg per kg of body weight

2oz chick = 0.0567kg x 7.40tsp = 0.5 tsp (1/2tsp)
7oz chick = 0.19845kg x 7.40 tsp = 1.5 tsp (1-1/2tsp)
1lb bird = 0.4536kg x 7.40tsp = 3.36 tsp or 1 Tbls (3.36/3=1.12)
10lb bird = 4.536kg x 7.40 tsp = 33.56 tsp or 11Tbls (33.57/3=11.19)

@casportpony Am I close?

@Free Spirit , what I'm looking for is how to make a Corid suspension that one could give very easily to any size bird and use the smallest amount of powder possible. So let me ask you this... if one takes 1/4, 1/3 or 1/2 teaspoon powder and mixes it with 10 ml of water, how many mg of amprolium are in that 10 ml solution? Then, based on that, how much of that solution would one give to the different sized birds?

I'm no math wizard as you probably have guessed

but I hope I've accomplished it this time.

Starting with the basics before the math.
1/4 tsp Corid = 135mg amprolium
1/3 tsp Corid = 180mg amprolium
1/2 tsp Corid = 270mg amprolium

Dosage = 20mg amprolium per kilogram body weight
2oz chick = 0.0567kg x 20 = 1.134mg amp needed
7oz chick = 0.19848kg x 20 = 3.969mg amp needed
1lb bird = .4536kg x 20 = 9.072mg amp needed
10lb bird = 4.435kg x 20 = 90.72mg amp needed

Mix Corid with water to make a suspension and give dosage
In this example:
1/4 tsp (135mg amprolium) in 60ml (1/4c) of water.
135mg divided by 60ml = 2.25mg amprolium per ml/cc
bird wt divided by mg amprolium per ml/cc = dosage amount for the bird

2oz chick = 1.134mg divided by 2.25mg = 0.5 (1/2) ml/cc dose
7oz chick = 3.969mg divided by 2.25mg = 1.75ml/cc dose
1lb bird = 9.072mg divided by 2.25mg = 4ml/cc dose
10lb bird = 90.72mg divided by 2.25 = 40ml/cc dose

Another way to figure it out with 1/4 tsp, 1/3 tsp, 1/2 tsp

2oz chick = 1.134mg amprolium needed
1/4 tsp Corid = 135mg amprolium divided by 1.134mg needed = 119ml water = 1ml/cc per dose
1/3 tsp Corid = 180mg amprolium divided by 1.134mg needed = 158ml water = 1ml/cc per dose
1/2 tsp Corid = 270mg amprolium divided by 1.134mg needed = 238ml water = 1ml/cc per dose

7oz chick = 3.969mg amprolium needed
1/4 tsp Corid = 135mg amprolium divided by 3.969mg needed = 34ml water = 1ml/cc per dose
1/3 tsp Corid = 180mg amprolium divided by 3.969mg needed = 45ml water = 1ml/cc per dose
1/2 tsp Corid = 270mg amprolium divided by 3.969mg needed = 68ml water = 1ml/cc per dose

1lb bird = 9.072mg amprolium needed
1/4 tsp Corid = 135mg amprolium divided by 9.072mg needed = 15ml water = 1ml/cc per dose
1/3 tsp Corid = 180mg amprolium divided by 9.072mg needed = 20ml water = 1ml/cc per dose
1/2 tsp Corid = 270mg amprolium divided by 9.072mg needed = 30ml water = 1ml/cc per dose

10lb bird = 90.72mg amprolium needed
1/4 tsp Corid = 135mg amprolium divided by 90.72mg needed = 1.5ml water = 1ml/cc per dose
1/3 tsp Corid = 180mg amprolium divided by 90.72mg needed = 2ml water = 1ml/cc per dose
1/2 tsp Corid = 270mg amprolium divided by 90.72mg needed = 3ml water = 1ml/cc per dose

@casportpony I hope I understood this time and that this is what you were looking for
