At three months of age the chick is old enough to be on its own.  Maturity varies with breeds. Most mature at 20-30 weeks of age.  One of my serama hens has left her chick and it has not reached 4 weeks old yet; it is doing fine.

Mama is done being mama, she is weaning the chick. At 3 months she has mothered longer than a lot of hens do. Has she raised the chick around a larger flock or were they separated from the rest of the flock all this time?
Where are we going, and why are we in this hand basket?
